Students who are interested in attending a Higher Education institution must apply for the FAFSA (Financial Aid Free Student Application) as soon as possible, preferably online www.fafsa.ed.gov, for the process will take about 4 to 6 weeks to get a response from the Education Department. The information (Student Aid Report, SAR) will be sent to the school of your choice and to you. Also keep in mind that you need to apply for the FAFSA in order for the Financial Aid Office, at your intended school, will be able to fill out the Budget Sheet which is part of your Muckleshoot Scholarship Application. We can assist in the filling out of paperwork, explaining, and guiding with the FAFSA. The required documents needed are:

We provide financial support to students for Tuition, Books and Supplies, Room and Board, Personal Living Expenses, and Travel, as well as, Childcare. Tribal members are honored with a cash incentive once they attain an Associate, Bachelor, Master or Doctorate Degree. There is also a Higher Education Graduation Dinner on June 18, 2009 to honor all the MIT graduates of universities, colleges, vocational, and GED. Everyone is invited to attend. GED ASSISTANCE Tribal members who wish to study for and receive the General Education Diploma (GED) may receive financial support from the Scholarship Program. To qualify for GED Assistance, Tribal members must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school for at least one year. In addition members must submit an approved GED completion plan from a certified GED instructor that provide proof of a pre-test and the GED Assistance application to qualify for the funding. The member who is in a GED certification program may receive financial support from the Scholarship Program until they receive their GED Certificate. Tribal members are honored with a cash incentive once they attain a GED Certificate. WORKSHOPS & TRAINING Laurie Starr Williams, Administrative Specialist III Telephone: 253-939-3311 Email: Financial.Aid@Muckleshoot.nsn.us There is funding available for any educational or wellness workshop, conference, or training for enrolled Muckleshoot Tribal Members on a biennially (once every 2 years). The funding is to cover Registration Fees, Travel Expenses, Lodging, Per Diem and Shuttle Fees, must submit application 30 days prior to the conference for approval. DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES To provide financial assistance for Muckleshoot Tribal members who have a learning disability, may apply for funds, to assist them with educational services to improve their learning performance that restricts their educational growth. All requests must be in writing, explaining need and costs for the monetary assistance. SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN CLOTHING INCENTIVE The Clothing Program is intended to improve the educational performance of all Muckleshoot Tribally enrolled students (from Birth to 18 years of age) by ensuring that they have the basic clothing and shoes needed to attend school and participate in activities. Tribal members must be enrolled in an educational program/school type of environment to be eligible for a $300 (twice year) clothing certificate. Tribal members will have to fill out an application and qualify for the Clothing Program before funds are issued. There are two disbursements one at the beginning of the school year in September and the next one in February. |
