The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe has long understood the importance of being proactive in meeting the needs of its community. The Muckleshoot Charity Fund has placed high priority in awarding grants to organizations throughout the region that address the unique local and regional issues facing the population.

Most Muckleshoot Charity Fund awards range from $1,500 to $5,000, allowing many agencies to benefit from the funds available. Profits from the Muckleshoot Casino are the sole source of funding for the Muckleshoot Charity Fund grants.

The Muckleshoot Charity Fund grant application procedure must be followed in order for your organization’s request to be reviewed and considered.  Below you will find information on Funding guidelines, eligibility requirements, funding priorities and the application process. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be located in Washington State or registered as a non-profit with the state of Washington, and meet one of the following basic requirements:

• Non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service or non-profit status under Washington State Law RCW 9.46.0920
• Government Agency
• State Recognized Public School

Applications must also meet the following two criteria:

• Funding proposals must address one of the priority areas identified above; and
• Proposals must show how they address the needs of the community, organization, or region.

Application Process

Only completed applications shall be forwarded to the Muckleshoot Charity Fund Committee for consideration. A completed application must identify how the proposal will meet the priority areas outlined above, what specifically the agency proposes to do with the grant award, a brief description of planned publicity, and provide the required  supporting documents of the proposal. Funding requests for date-specific events should include detailed information on the event, including the planned date.* Applications are recommended to be submitted 3-6 months in advance of any specific event dates.

Only the Board Chair, Chief Executive Officer, or other individual empowered with entering into a contract on behalf of the organization should  submit the application.

Applications must include at least one of the following attachments in order to be considered complete.

• Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter (if one has been issued to the applicant); or
• Non-profit status under Washington State Law RCW 9.46.0920 (Certificate of Incorporation from WA Secretary of State’s office)
• For Public Schools/Districts/Programs, a letter of legitimacy signed from appropriate administrator on letter head.

Review Process

• There are no application deadlines
• The Muckleshoot Charity Fund receives many applications each cycle and not all requests can be funded and/or reviewed within the cycle it is received
• Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis and successful applicants will be notified when funding is approved. Otherwise, applicants are not contacted by staff for pending applications.
• Agencies may not receive more than one grant per every 12 months
• Grants are not guaranteed on an annual basis
• All funding decisions of the Muckleshoot Charity Fund Committee are final
