Reflecting back during Indigenous Peoples day we wanted to thank you for your support during the 2026 Muckleshoot Canoe Landing at Alki Beach. We welcomed seventy-seven canoes and hundreds of visitors to the shore as they stopped at our homelands for rest before they made their way to Nisqually. This is a tradition which we honor as a part of our heritage, cultural identity, and responsibility as Muckleshoot people, the Federally Recognized Treaty Tribe of King County. This event was an expression of our cultural sovereignty, tribal relationships, and our reciprocity to those on the journey. Your support ensured we could practice our cultural identity, host visitors from near and far, and do so safely and in an organized and respectful manner. Thank you for your continued partnership; we value your time, expertise, and contributions. We look forward to continuing our work together in the future. Please accept this letter as a token of our respect, gratitude, and acknowledgement of the contributions you made that made our event possible and a success.
We raise our hands to you.
Muckleshoot Tribal Council

The Muckleshoot Tribal Council, Muckleshoot Intergovernmental Affairs, and our D.C. team were actively engaged since the BBB’s inception in January to ensure that the Tribe’s sovereignty and treaty rights were protected in this process.

Muckleshoot Tribal Council is closely monitoring actions coming from D.C. and listening to the concerns of our people. This month, Muckleshoot Tribal Council sent a delegation to Washington, D.C. to carry your voice to key politicians.

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe believes in supporting the community – and it puts its resources behind those convictions.

This winter, as it has since before anyone can remember, the sweet smell of alder smoke filtered through the air above our village as the community came together to preserve salmon with the ancient “hard smoke” process.
The Muckleshoot Messenger is a monthly Tribal publication. Tribal community members and Tribal employees are welcome to submit items to the newspaper such as announcements, birth news, birthday shoutouts, community highlights, and more. We want to hear from you!
